Sometimes it is best to distract yourself from thoughts that are causing stress or low mood. By distracting yourself, you can give yourself a chance to rebalance and reset. If there are problems that need solving, you can come back later. Even after a short period away, you will be refreshed and have a renewed focus to solve them. If your overthinking is just going around in circles, then you can take control of that by distracting yourself.
It doesn't really matter what you do to distract yourself. It doesn't have to be something fulfilling or interesting. The truth is that doing anything at all that you are not currently doing will distract you from those negative thoughts. Some of the tips on the "Making Changes" page might help too.
